Samsung Pay

Samsung Pay will be featured by all Galaxy smartphones with fingerprint sensors out of the box in 2017. This means that budget Galaxy A, J or E Series devices will have S Pay capability if they have a fingerprint sensor on board. Most affordable devices in this range, have always been released without biometric sensors in the previous years.

Only a few upper mid-rangers such as the Galaxy A Series have been spotting fingerprint sensors but without S Pay. Samsung has been restricting S Pay mainly to the latest premium S Series flagships. These premium devices include the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, S6 Edge+, Note 5, Gear S2, and Gear S3. They have been the only ones to offer S Pay out of the box. But this is about to change in 2017, as Lowcards reported recently.

Another Mobile Payment service in the works is the Samsung Pay Mini. It will pave way for smartphones outside the Galaxy platform linking to S Pay services. Is expected to be compatible with Android OS based smartphones. However, not all features of S Pay will be available outside the full application.

It was also indicated that Samsung Pay Mini might be capable of working with iOS-based devices. However, Apple quickly and of course strategically dismissed this possibility. Samsung will obviously focus on Android devices if it is seeking to woo manufacturers for common use. Samsung Pay Mini is expected to launch in January.

NFC and MST technologies helping Samsung Pay

The most non-contestable advantage of S Pay is the use of both NFC and MST technologies. NFC (near-field communication) and MST (magnetic secure transmission) technologies allow Samsung Pay to work just like normal magnetic strip-credit cards.

Top devices made by Samsung are the only known ones having MST on top of NFC capability. It is a key advantage Samsung Pay has over competition, including Apple Pay, because its devices can operate with any mobile payments register.
