Samsung Secure Folder

Samsung has finally introduced a downloadable version of Secure Folder, to help Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge users secure personal important information. The Samsung Secure Folder APK can be downloaded directly from the Galaxy Apps store, only with devices upgraded to Android 7.0, Nougat.

Secure Folder is nearly the same as Samsung Knox. It creates an encrypted, private space where data and apps can be sandboxed independently. During normal operation, stored information cannot be accessed by any other person without routine authentication. You can use a PIN, pattern passcode or fingerprint authentication to unlock your files.

Because of sandboxing running programs, Secure Folder can prevent malicious attacks. Any notes, photos, contacts or browser data stay within the app, ant at the same time stay separated from the similar apps outside Secure Folder. Besides securely storing personal apps and info, users can also make copies of their favorite apps which can be accessed via alternate profiles.

Using Samsung Secure Folder is relatively handy in ensuring that banking information, large personal files remain private. Even friends and family can be locked out of your smartphone and you won’t be afraid to lend them your phone anymore.

To use Secure Folder, you will need to setup a Samsung Account. Sensitive information can easily be moved to Secure Folder from native apps like Gallery, My documents, Contacts and others. Additionally, Secure Folder can be renamed or hidden from the home screen using Quick Panel. You can even change its icon.

Finally, Secure Folder supports cloud-based backup and restore (BnR) feature. It allows you to easily migrate stored information and data to another smartphone. Again, sandboxing allows Secure Folder backups to be separated from the general backup files. You can only restore with settings within the Secure Folder.

As you can see, Samsung has intended to make Secure Folder even more user-friendly, compared to Samsung Knox. They are also expanding its coverage. The new Galaxy A7 (2017, Galaxy A5 (2017) and Galaxy A3 (2017) have Secure Folder preinstalled. More devices including Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Note 5 will soon add support for Secure folder when Samsung rolls out Nougat 7.0 globally.
